Provenance

Where it came from

The Caves of Chaos Adventurer was released as part of the 2022 Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate expansion. The set was designed to bridge the gap between the complex mechanics of the Magic: The Gathering card game and the iconic narrative world of Dungeons & Dragons, specifically drawing inspiration from the classic 'Keep on the Borderlands' module.

The card features artwork by illustrator Anna Steinbauer, who utilized a heroic, painterly style to evoke the feeling of a classic adventuring party. The design centers on the 'Initiative' mechanic, a thematic inclusion intended to simulate the turn-based structure of a tabletop role-playing game encounter, which was received by the player base as a powerful and flavorful addition to the Commander format.
