Celestial Crusader

Celestial Crusader was originally released as part of the Time Spiral expansion in 2006, a set uniquely designed to celebrate the history of Magic: The Gathering by blending past mechanics with modern design. It was reprinted in Time Spiral Remastered, released in 2021, which curated the most iconic cards from the original Time Spiral block into a cohesive draft environment. The card functions as a tribal support piece, providing a power and toughness boost to white creatures, echoing the game's long-standing design philosophy of 'lord' effects that reward players for focusing on specific creature types.

The card features artwork by Greg Staples, whose atmospheric and detailed illustration style defined much of the visual identity for this era of the game. Staples aimed to capture the essence of a heroic, radiant guardian, utilizing dramatic lighting to emphasize the character’s celestial nature. Upon its initial release, the card was received as a solid inclusion for white-based aggressive strategies, praised by players for its ability to stabilize a board while contributing to the tempo-focused playstyle common in white decks at the time.
