What it does
When you unlock this door, search your library for a Room card that doesn't have the same name as a Room you control, reveal it, put it into your hand, then shuffle.
(You may cast either half. That door unlocks on the battlefield. As a sorcery, you may pay the mana cost of a locked door to unlock it.)

Where it came from
Central Elevator // Promising Stairs was released as part of the Duskmourn: House of Horror promotional set in 2024. The card represents a double-faced enchantment designed to evoke the claustrophobic and supernatural atmosphere of a haunted mansion setting, a key aesthetic theme for this Magic: The Gathering expansion. Mechanically, the card serves as a utility piece that plays into the set’s exploration of liminal, shifting spaces.
The artwork and design reflect the collaborative effort of Wizards of the Coast’s creative team to ground the horror-themed expansion in a cohesive visual language. By utilizing the double-faced format, the design team aimed to capture the psychological tension of an ever-changing environment, with the transition from the elevator to the stairs emphasizing a sense of mounting dread. The card was well-received by players for its thematic resonance and its effective integration of flavor into gameplay mechanics.
