Provenance

Where it came from

The Champion's Helm, a reprint card featuring new artwork by artist Johannes Voss, was released in 2022 as part of the Secret Lair Countdown Kit. This product was designed by Wizards of the Coast as a holiday-themed advent calendar, offering a curated selection of cards that functioned as a thematic lead-up to the 30th anniversary celebrations of the Magic: The Gathering franchise.

The design of this specific iteration draws on the high-fantasy aesthetic characteristic of Voss's work, emphasizing a regal and protective quality for the equipment artifact. Within the game, the card itself dates back to the original Mirrodin block in 2003, where it was introduced to emphasize equipment mechanics. The Secret Lair version was well-received by collectors for its polished, atmospheric illustration that elevated the visual presentation of a classic utility piece.
