Charix, the Raging Isle

Charix, the Raging Isle was introduced in the 2020 Magic: The Gathering set Zendikar Rising. The set served as a return to the plane of Zendikar, a world defined by its volatile, shifting landscape and dangerous adventuring environment. As a Legendary Creature, Charix was designed to represent the colossal, land-bound manifestations of the plane's elemental fury, fitting the set’s thematic focus on the island itself acting as a primary force in the game.

The card was illustrated by Viktor Titov, who utilized a dramatic, scale-heavy aesthetic to emphasize the creature's immense size and connection to the sea. Titov's design sought to convey the feeling of an entire landmass rising from the depths, employing a color palette of deep blues and vibrant teals to align with the card's identity as a blue-aligned powerhouse. Upon release, it was well-received by the Commander community for its unique defensive and offensive scaling mechanics, which reward players for committing significant resources to the battlefield.
