Choked Estuary

Choked Estuary was released as part of the Magic: The Gathering 'Universes Beyond' collaboration with Marvel, specifically featured in the Marvel Super Heroes Commander deck collection. The card functions as a dual land, a staple mechanic in the game designed to provide mana flexibility, and was reimagined through the lens of Marvel's iconic locations to fit the thematic crossover. It represents the aesthetic intersection of high-fantasy card mechanics and the expansive environment of the Marvel multiverse, aiming to immerse players in the specific geography associated with Marvel's hero rosters.

The visual design of this card focuses on the evocative, often perilous settings found within Marvel comics, illustrated to capture a sense of desolation and environmental hazard. By integrating this specific location into the Commander format, the design team sought to bridge the gap between traditional Magic gameplay and the narrative weight of comic book lore. It was received as a functional addition to the deck's infrastructure, appreciated by players for its ability to maintain the card game's balance while visually anchoring the deck in its source material.
