Where it came from
Chosen by Heliod was released in 2013 as part of the Theros expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The set was inspired by Greek mythology, focusing on the plane of Theros where gods directly influence the lives of mortals. This specific card represents the thematic mechanics of Auras and Heroic, reflecting the influence of the sun god Heliod on his chosen champions within the game's lore.
The card features artwork by the illustrator Volkan Baga, who is known for his work on numerous Magic: The Gathering sets. Baga's design for the piece emphasizes the divine, radiant aesthetic associated with Heliod and his domain. Within the competitive landscape of the Theros block, the card served as a functional tool for Limited play, designed to bolster creatures and trigger beneficial effects tied to the set's unique Heroic keyword ability.
