Where it came from
Chromatic Orrery was released as a mythic rare artifact in the 2020 Core Set 2021, a pivotal expansion intended to modernize staples and introduce high-impact build-around cards for the Commander format. The card was designed to function as a powerful engine for decks utilizing multi-colored spells, embodying the complexity of celestial mechanics through its unique ability to filter mana and draw cards.
The illustration was crafted by artist Titus Lunter, whose work is characterized by a luminous, atmospheric quality. Lunter’s depiction of the Orrery focuses on intricate, glowing gears and cosmic motifs, aiming to evoke the sense of a grand, functioning model of the multiverse. The card was well-received by players for its utility in ramp-heavy strategies, securing its place as a distinctive piece in the history of artifacts within the game.
