Chronicler of Heroes

Chronicler of Heroes was first released in the 2013 set Theros, designed by Wizards of the Coast to immerse players in a world inspired by Greek mythology. The card was specifically crafted to represent the heroes of the set, utilizing the game's heroic mechanic to reward players for targeting their own creatures with spells. Its inclusion in the 2017 Iconic Masters set allowed players to revisit powerful cards from Magic: The Gathering’s history, featuring updated art that emphasizes the card's theme of recording legendary deeds.

The art for the card was created by Winona Nelson, who sought to capture a sense of classical epic storytelling. Her illustration depicts a scribe documenting the feats of a warrior, echoing the aesthetic of an ancient historian preserving myths for posterity. Upon its release, the card was received as a functional tool for midrange strategies, particularly valued for its ability to draw cards in decks that focused on buffing creatures, thereby bridging the gap between tactical combat and resource management.
