Cinder Barrens

Cinder Barrens was introduced in the Core Set 2019 expansion for Magic: The Gathering, released by Wizards of the Coast in July 2018. Designed to function as a functional land card that provides mana versatility, it belongs to a cycle of common dual lands that entered the battlefield tapped, intended to provide necessary color fixing for players in the Limited and Standard formats of the time.

The artwork was commissioned from Titus Lunter, a frequent collaborator with Wizards of the Coast known for his evocative landscape illustrations. Lunter sought to capture the desolate, volcanic aesthetic of a barren wasteland, using a muted color palette to emphasize the inhospitable nature of the terrain.
