Provenance

Where it came from

Cinder Elemental was originally printed as a common card in the Jumpstart expansion, released by Wizards of the Coast in 2020. This set was designed to facilitate a unique, randomized draft experience where players combine two packs to create a functional deck, intended to lower the barrier to entry for new players while providing engaging synergies for veterans. The artwork, provided by Dave Kendall, captures the elemental’s fiery essence with a high-contrast style that emphasizes the chaotic, volatile nature of the creature.

The card later appeared as part of The List, an evolving collection of reprints curated by Wizards of the Coast and inserted into Set Boosters starting in late 2020. Inclusion in The List allows older or specialized cards to circulate within the current meta-game without requiring a full set reprint. The design remains faithful to the original mechanics of the card, which allows players to sacrifice the elemental to deal damage based on its power, a classic red-aligned ability that rewards aggressive playstyles.
