Where it came from
Clockspinning was released as part of the Magic: The Gathering 'Universes Beyond' Doctor Who set in 2023. As a card within the 'Blast from the Past' Commander deck, it was designed to represent the non-linear nature of time travel central to the series. The mechanics allow players to manipulate time counters on cards, directly referencing the cyclical and often chaotic temporal narratives of the Doctor’s adventures across multiple regenerations.
The card features artwork by artists who contributed to the set’s effort to capture the aesthetic breadth of the long-running television show. The design team focused on creating versatile utility cards that provide mechanical depth for players while maintaining thematic consistency with the Doctor Who universe. It was received by the player community as a flavorful and highly functional inclusion for decks centered around suspend or vanishing mechanics.
