Where it came from
Cloud, Midgar Mercenary (520) is a card released as part of the Final Fantasy Trading Card Game, a tactical tabletop experience developed by Square Enix. The game was designed to adapt the vast lore and iconic characters of the Final Fantasy franchise into a competitive format, allowing players to build decks around different protagonists and recurring enemies. This particular card draws inspiration from Cloud Strife’s appearance in Final Fantasy VII, capturing his role as a taciturn mercenary operating within the industrial sprawl of Midgar.
The visual design of the card utilizes official character artwork associated with the game’s aesthetic, focusing on Cloud's signature Buster Sword and distinctive attire. Within the competitive ecosystem of the trading card game, the card is recognized for its utility in supporting various deck archetypes that leverage the FFVII category. Since the game's global launch, such cards have served both a functional role in gameplay and a commemorative purpose for fans of the original PlayStation-era title.
