Provenance

Where it came from

Cloud Sprite was originally printed in the Mirage expansion in 1996, designed as a part of the Faerie creature type that became a hallmark of blue magic in Magic: The Gathering. The card was selected for the Tenth Edition core set, which served as a milestone for the game as it was the first core set to feature modern card frames and white borders for base cards, bridging the gap between the game's early history and its modern mechanical identity.

The art for the Tenth Edition printing features an illustration by Rebecca Guay, whose ethereal and watercolor-inspired style became synonymous with the aesthetic of blue-aligned creatures during the 1990s and early 2000s. Her work on the Sprite sought to capture the whimsical, delicate nature of Faeries, contrasting with the more aggressive or grounded creature designs prevalent in other color cycles at the time.
