Clutch of Currents is an uncommon blue spell originating from the Battle for Zendikar set, released by Wizards of the Coast in 2015. It was designed as a functional piece of utility in the Limited format, providing players with the ability to tap a creature and potentially return it to its owner's hand if the card's 'Awaken' cost was paid. The card reflects the set's central theme of the Eldrazi invasion of the plane of Zendikar, where the environment itself was depicted as fighting back against the world-consuming entities.

The card features artwork by the illustrator Lake Hurwitz, who chose to emphasize the chaotic, elemental nature of Zendikar’s roil. Hurwitz’s design captures the magical currents surging to displace an enemy, aligning with the mechanical focus on tempo-based play common in blue magic within the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem.
