Where it came from
Commune with Spirits was released in 2022 as part of the Magic: The Gathering set Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty. The set served as a thematic return to the plane of Kamigawa, reimagining its original feudal Japanese aesthetic through a futuristic, cyberpunk lens. This card represents the intersection of the set's traditional spiritual roots and its high-tech setting, illustrating the practice of interacting with the pervasive spirits of the world.
The card’s illustration was crafted by artist Wisnu Tan, who focused on capturing the serene, ethereal connection between the physical and spirit realms. The design intent was to provide green-aligned decks with a reliable utility tool for finding enchantments and lands, fitting mechanically into the set’s focus on the enchantment archetype. It was well-received by players for its efficiency and for how perfectly its visual storytelling integrated into the set’s distinct neon-infused landscape.
