Where it came from
Concord with the Kami was released in 2022 as part of the Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty Commander set. The card reflects the thematic fusion of traditional Japanese folklore and futuristic cyberpunk aesthetics that defines the Neon Dynasty expansion. It was designed to support the 'enchantment matters' mechanics prevalent in the set, providing players with a utility piece that bridges the gap between the plane's ancient spirit-worship traditions and its high-tech evolution.
The card features artwork by the illustrator Daarken, who has been a long-standing contributor to the Magic: The Gathering card pool. In this piece, the artist captures the ethereal nature of the Kami, focusing on the visual harmony between natural organic elements and the vibrant, neon-lit environment of Kamigawa. Upon its release, the card was received as a solid, functional tool for enchantment-focused Commander decks, valued by players for its efficiency in recurring smaller permanents.
