Constant Mists

Constant Mists was originally printed in the Stronghold expansion of Magic: The Gathering in 1998, but the specific version identified here hails from the 1999 World Championship Decks. These decks were released by Wizards of the Coast as a way for players to experience the high-level tournament play of the era by providing exact, non-tournament-legal replicas of the decks used by the top players at the 1999 World Championships.

The card was illustrated by Terese Nielsen, whose distinctive and evocative art style defined much of the aesthetic of late 1990s Magic. The card itself, a green enchantment that allows players to prevent damage by returning a land to their hand, was designed to provide a powerful defensive utility for control-oriented strategies. The 1999 deck releases were well-received as accessible tools for both learning the competitive metagame and preserving the history of professional play during a formative period for the game.
