Provenance

Where it came from

Cover the Spot was released in 2022 as part of the Unfinity set, the fourth standalone expansion in Magic: The Gathering's Un-series. Designed to push the boundaries of traditional gameplay, the set focused on a carnival-themed aesthetic and incorporated mechanics that interact with physical objects, cards, or even the player's own surroundings to resolve effects.

The card was illustrated by Sergey Glushakov, who leaned into the retro, whimsical atmosphere of a midway game. As a 'sticker' card, its design reflects the set's unique implementation of adhesive mechanics, intended to bring a playful, interactive challenge to casual kitchen-table environments rather than competitive tournament play, where its mechanics are generally prohibited.
