Crossbow Ambush

Crossbow Ambush was released in 1998 as part of the Stronghold expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As the second set in the Rath Cycle, Stronghold focused on the dark, industrial themes of the plane of Rath. The card mechanics were designed to reflect the tactical, often brutal nature of the setting, emphasizing the strategic advantage of reactive gameplay through instant-speed removal.

The card features illustration by Terese Nielsen, a prominent artist whose work became a cornerstone of the game's aesthetic during the late 1990s.
