Crumbling Necropolis

Crumbling Necropolis was originally introduced in the Shards of Alara expansion, designed as a tri-land that taps for one of three colors of mana at the cost of entering the battlefield tapped. Within the context of The Brothers' War Commander set, it was reprinted as a functional staple to support the multi-colored archetypes common in the Commander format. Its inclusion in this specific set serves to provide players with accessible land-base utility for decks centered on the Grixis color identity.

The card’s illustration, rendered by artist Volkan Baga, depicts a desolate, weathered landscape that evokes the decay and ancient history thematic to the Necropolis. The design focuses on conveying a sense of profound stillness and ruin, aligning with the mechanical identity of a land that provides versatile resources despite its stagnant state. Upon its initial release and subsequent reprints, the card has been consistently received as a reliable, budget-friendly inclusion for players managing complex mana bases.
