What it does
Exile all creature cards from target player's graveyard. You gain 3 life for each card exiled this way.
Suddenly a song began: a cold murmur, rising and falling, grim, cold, heartless and miserable. The night was railing against the morning of which it was bereaved, and the cold was cursing the warmth for which it hungered.

Where it came from
Crypt Incursion was released as part of the Magic: The Gathering Tales of Middle-earth Commander set in 2023. The card was designed to function within a black-aligned deck strategy, specifically targeting the graveyard mechanics prevalent in the Commander format. Its thematic inclusion reflects the dark, atmospheric encounters found within J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium, focusing on the preservation and manipulation of the dead.
The artwork for this iteration was rendered by artist Jason Rainville. His approach sought to capture the grim, haunting nature of Middle-earth’s most ominous locales, utilizing a moody color palette that emphasizes the macabre elements of the scene. The card was well-received by players for its utility in counteracting strategies that rely on reanimation, solidifying its place as a staple for tactical interaction in black-based decks.
