Provenance

Where it came from

Crypt Sliver was first introduced in the 2003 Magic: The Gathering expansion set Legions, which was unique for consisting entirely of creature cards. The card belongs to the Sliver creature type, a parasitic hive-mind race known for sharing their abilities with one another. Mechanically, the card allows players to regenerate any Sliver on the battlefield by tapping it, providing a crucial defensive utility to a tribe otherwise focused on aggressive offensive maneuvers.

The artwork was created by illustrator Tony Szczudlo, whose style helped define the distinct, spindly, and alien aesthetic of the Slivers during the early 2000s. The card was included in The List, a curated selection of reprints integrated into Set Boosters starting in 2020. Its inclusion in this specific program reflects Wizards of the Coast's initiative to highlight iconic or useful cards from the game's long history for a new generation of players.
