Where it came from
Curse of Shaken Faith was released as part of the Innistrad: Midnight Hunt expansion in 2021, a set that returned players to the gothic horror-themed plane of Innistrad. This specific card, numbered 134p, is a promotional variant featuring alternate artwork that leans heavily into the set's themes of haunting folklore and the supernatural tension surrounding the plane's endless night. The design philosophy behind this card was to provide a punishing enchantment that taxes opponents for casting multiple spells, fitting the set's mechanics which often centered on graveyard utility and the struggle against encroaching darkness.
The artwork for this promo version was crafted to evoke a sense of creeping dread, using the muted, melancholic color palette that defines the Innistrad aesthetic. The card saw moderate interest among Commander players for its ability to discourage explosive spell-casting turns, and it became a sought-after piece for collectors who favored the specialized border treatments introduced during the Midnight Hunt release cycle. Its reception was grounded in its utility within specific meta-game archetypes, with its visual style being widely praised for its consistency with the established world-building of the Innistrad setting.
