Cursed Land

Cursed Land was released in 1993 as part of the Limited Edition Alpha set for Magic: The Gathering, the inaugural trading card game developed by Richard Garfield and published by Wizards of the Coast. As one of the original land cards, it provided a functional utility within the game's mechanics, allowing players to generate mana at the cost of life. The design reflects the early aesthetic of the game, characterized by the dark, high-fantasy illustrations commissioned from a small pool of freelance artists during the game’s hurried production phase.

The card’s illustration was created by Dan Frazier, whose work across the Alpha set helped define the visual identity of the game’s core land cards.
