Where it came from
The Damn Art Series card, part of the Modern Horizons 2 release in 2021, represents a specialized subset of the set designed to highlight the illustrative talent commissioned for Magic: The Gathering. These cards are non-playable collectibles that feature the card's artwork on the front, entirely devoid of the game text and frame elements found on standard cards, allowing the imagery to serve as the primary focus.
The piece was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who captured the grim, high-contrast aesthetic that defines the 'Damn' card. The illustration serves as a visual interpretation of the card's dual nature—the ability to act as either a targeted removal spell or a board wipe—utilizing thematic darkness to convey its overwhelming impact on the game board. Upon release, these Art Series cards were well-received by collectors who prioritize the aesthetic contribution of the game's artists.
