What it does
If a land is tapped for two or more mana, it produces colorless mana instead of any other type and amount.
Each spell a player casts costs 1 generic mana more to cast for each other spell that player has cast this turn.
A Thran relic, it has spent ten thousand years doing absolutely nothing.

Where it came from
Damping Sphere was first introduced in the Dominaria expansion in 2018, designed as a potent anti-combo tool intended to balance fast-mana strategies in eternal formats like Modern and Legacy. The card functions as a tax on multi-spell turns and a stabilizer against decks that rely on non-basic lands to generate excessive mana, reflecting a design philosophy focused on providing interactive answers for reactive archetypes.
The Dominaria Remastered version, released in 2023, features art that maintains the original aesthetic of the sphere as an imposing, geometric artifact crackling with energy. This reprint served to make the card more accessible to players, cementing its status as a staple utility piece that appears in sideboards across competitive Magic: The Gathering scenes worldwide due to its efficiency and colorless identity.
