Where it came from
Dart Throw was released in 2022 as part of the Unfinity set, the fourth installment in Wizards of the Coast's 'Un-set' series. These sets are designed to push the boundaries of Magic: The Gathering gameplay through humor, unconventional mechanics, and high-concept artistic themes, often utilizing a retro-futuristic space carnival aesthetic that distinguishes them from the game's standard fantasy settings.
The card was illustrated by Brian Valeza, whose design leans into the whimsical, carnival-themed visual language of the set. It serves as a lighthearted interaction piece, mechanically reflecting the act of a dart throw within the constraints of the game's unique, non-tournament-legal ruleset. Its inclusion in the set highlights the creative freedom designers enjoy when working outside the rigid confines of official competitive formats.
