Deathbringer Liege

Deathbringer Liege was originally introduced in the 2008 Eventide expansion, designed as part of a cycle of 'Liege' creatures that emphasized the dual-colored nature of the set by buffing creatures sharing its colors. It was later reprinted in the Commander 2021 preconstructed deck titled Silverquill Statement, which focused on the Orzhov color identity of white and black. This reprint brought the card into the modern Commander format, where its ability to tap and destroy creatures based on color synergy provides significant utility for decks centered on the Orzhov guild.

The card's original artwork was rendered by Nils Hamm, who is known for his atmospheric and often surreal contributions to the Magic: The Gathering card pool. Hamm’s design for the Liege features a haunting, spectral figure that embodies the darker, more rigid themes of the Orzhov Syndicate.
