Provenance

Where it came from

Deathbringer Regent was originally introduced in the Dragons of Tarkir set in 2015, designed as a powerful board-clearing creature that rewards players for committing to a strategy centered on large flying threats. The card reflects the draconic themes of the Tarkir plane, capturing the destructive nature of the brood mother Silumgar through its ability to destroy all other creatures when it enters the battlefield.

The 2022 reprint, featuring collector number 396, was issued as part of the Jumpstart 2022 set, which aimed to facilitate quick, accessible play by combining pre-constructed thematic packets. The artwork for this iteration maintains the high-fantasy aesthetic established for the card, focusing on the imposing scale of the dragon as it descends to clear the field. It remains a staple in casual Commander circles where board stabilization is a frequent tactical necessity.
