Decimate

Decimate is a sorcery card originally printed in the Odyssey expansion in 2001, later appearing in the Final Fantasy Commander set as card number 323. Its design reflects the classic color pie philosophy of red and green, requiring the caster to destroy four different types of permanents—artifact, creature, enchantment, and land—simultaneously. This mechanical complexity serves as a powerful board-state equalizer, rewarding players who can navigate the precise targeting requirements while punishing opponents who have diversified their resources.

The card’s illustration and flavor have evolved across its various printings to emphasize the destructive, entropic nature of its red-green identity. In the context of Commander, a format defined by its multiplayer dynamics and board-heavy gameplay, Decimate remains a staple for its ability to clear multiple threats for a relatively low mana cost. Its design is intended to create high-impact moments that demand careful planning, as the card cannot be played unless all four target categories are available on the battlefield.
