Where it came from
Deny Reality was released in 2022 as part of the Warhammer 40,000 Commander deck series for Magic: The Gathering. This set marked a significant collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and Games Workshop, integrating the grimdark science-fiction lore of the 41st millennium into the mechanics of the popular card game. The card serves as a thematic bridge, representing the chaotic forces of the Warp that threaten the stability of the Imperium.
The artwork for this specific iteration was commissioned to evoke the surreal, eldritch horror inherent in Chaos magic. By featuring the distinctive, high-contrast style associated with the Tyranids and the Warp-touched factions, the design team sought to capture the visceral intensity of Warhammer 40,000. It was received as a functional and evocative reprint, appreciated by players for its thematic consistency and its utility within the cascade-focused archetypes of the format.
