Provenance

Where it came from

Diabolic Tutor was first introduced to the Magic: The Gathering card game in the Eighth Edition core set, but the version from Commander 2011 represents a specific reprint designed for the inaugural Commander preconstructed decks. This set was a milestone for Wizards of the Coast, marking the formal integration of the community-driven Commander format into the official product lineup to support multiplayer gameplay.

The artwork for this particular printing retains the signature style associated with the card's history, focusing on the dark, scholarly aesthetic of black-aligned search spells. Designed to allow a player to search their library for any card, the design balances power with a mana cost that reflects its status as a staple utility card within the Commander format's slower, more strategic environment.
