Where it came from
Disciple of Tevesh Szat was released in 2006 as part of the Coldsnap expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The set was designed to be a retro-styled follow-up to the 1995 Ice Age block, utilizing the same snowy, frozen aesthetic that defined the earlier era of the game. It was conceived as a 'lost' third set that was never produced at the time, offering players a nostalgic look at the mechanics and themes prevalent during the mid-nineties.
The card features artwork by Christopher Rush, one of the most prominent early illustrators for the game. His design captures the bleak, necrotic theme of the character—a follower of the infamous Planeswalker Tevesh Szat—by emphasizing visceral, dark fantasy motifs. Upon release, the card was received as a functional addition to black-aligned decks that utilized the set's unique snow-covered permanents, fitting seamlessly into the established lore of the Ice Age narrative arc.
