Where it came from
Disinformation Campaign was released as part of the Murders at Karlov Manor Commander set in early 2024. The card draws heavily from the set's overarching aesthetic, which blends classic detective noir tropes with the high-fantasy elements of the Magic: The Gathering multiverse. It was designed to function within a multiplayer format, emphasizing the political and social manipulation themes central to the Ravnica plane's shadowy underworld.
The artwork for this iteration was created by Alayna Danner, a prominent fantasy illustrator known for her atmospheric and painterly style. In crafting the visual for the card, Danner focused on the clandestine nature of information warfare, utilizing moody lighting and intricate architectural details to evoke the feeling of an investigation unfolding in the dark corners of the city. The design was received by players as a functional and thematic nod to the set's detective-centric mechanics, highlighting the game's ability to translate complex abstract concepts into interactive gameplay.
