Provenance

Where it came from

Domineer was released in 2003 as part of the Mirrodin expansion set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Developed by Wizards of the Coast, the set introduced an artifact-centric theme centered on the metallic plane of Mirrodin. Designed by lead designer Mark Rosewater and his team, the set sought to immerse players in a world constructed entirely of metal, influencing both the mechanical gameplay and the aesthetic direction of the cards.

The card features illustration by Daren Bader, whose work throughout the Mirrodin block focused on the cold, industrial beauty of the plane. Domineer was designed as an enchantment reflecting the aggressive nature of the set's setting. While it did not become a cornerstone of competitive tournament play, it remains a notable example of the early-2000s card design philosophy that emphasized creature control and enchantment-based interaction within the game's evolving color pie.
