Doom Blade

Doom Blade first appeared in the Magic 2010 core set, marking a significant shift in Magic: The Gathering's design philosophy by introducing a streamlined, efficient removal spell that allowed black decks to destroy non-black creatures for only two mana. Its inclusion in the 2011 core set helped solidify its status as a staple, reflecting a period where Wizards of the Coast sought to make core sets more exciting for established players by including high-utility cards with simple, elegant mechanics.

The artwork by Chippy depicts a dark, ethereal blade manifesting in shadow, perfectly capturing the lethal and ominous nature of the spell.
