What it does
At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player sacrifices a nonland, nontoken permanent of their choice. If that player can't, they discard a card, they lose 2 life, you draw a card, you gain 2 life, you create a 2/2 white Knight creature token with vigilance, then you sacrifice this enchantment.
In the end, death usually has its way.

Where it came from
Doom Foretold was introduced as part of the Throne of Eldraine set in 2019, drawing inspiration from Arthurian legend mixed with the darker, grimmer elements of Brothers Grimm-style fairy tales. As a white enchantment, the card functions as a cyclical engine of sacrifice and value, reflecting the set's broader mechanical focus on artifacts and enchantments interacting within a high-fantasy, storybook-themed environment.
The illustrative work for this particular promotional variant was handled by artist Greg Staples. His design leans into the gothic and foreboding aesthetic characteristic of the card's theme, utilizing stark contrast and a sense of impending dread to visually represent its gameplay function of slowly dismantling an opponent's board state. The card was well-received by players for its unique strategic utility in control-oriented deck builds.
