Provenance

Where it came from

The 'Doom Reigns Supreme' card originates from the 1990 Marvel Super Heroes trading card set produced by Impel. This inaugural set was designed to capture the expansive Marvel Universe, featuring iconic cover art and character profiles that served as a foundational collectible for comic book enthusiasts at the dawn of the 1990s trading card boom. The card depicts Doctor Doom, one of the publisher's most enduring antagonists, reflecting the classic aesthetic of the era's comic illustrations.

The card was produced during a period when Marvel sought to diversify its brand presence beyond traditional print comics, leveraging the popularity of trading cards to reach a broader audience. The design choices, characterized by vibrant color palettes and bold, heroic poses, were intended to appeal to both long-time readers and new fans. While individual cards were not often individually credited to specific artists in the set's production documentation, they were curated to showcase the signature styles that defined Marvel's visual identity during that decade.
