Provenance

Where it came from

Door of Destinies was originally introduced in the Morningtide set as a centerpiece for tribal-themed decks, designed to reward players for committing to a specific creature type. By allowing the artifact to grow in power whenever a creature of the chosen type is cast, it forces a strategic trade-off between board presence and the risk of over-extending, making it a staple of synergy-heavy formats like Commander.

The Commander 2017 printing featured here utilizes the original artwork by Greg Staples, whose moody, intricate illustration captures the thematic weight of a gateway to power. The card was selected for inclusion in the 2017 preconstructed decks to support the expanded focus on tribal mechanics, and it remains widely regarded by players as an essential engine for any deck built around creature types that benefit from repeated triggers.
