Dragon Man, Reformed Robot

Dragon Man, card number 400, belongs to the Marvel Super Heroes Commander set, a collection released to capture the expansive roster of Marvel characters through illustrated trading cards. The item depicts Dragon Man, an android created by Professor Gregson Gilbert and later manipulated by various villains, reflecting the mid-1960s comic book trope of artificial life forms grappling with their creators' agendas. This card fits into the broader 1990s trading card boom, a period defined by an intense focus on completionism and detailed character statistics.

The visual design of the card emphasizes the character's monstrous, dragon-like physiology, consistent with the aesthetic direction of the set, which aimed to provide fans with accessible summaries of Marvel lore. The artwork serves as a concise reference point for the character's history, highlighting his transition from an antagonist to a more complex, occasionally heroic figure within the Marvel Universe. Collectors valued these cards for their role as portable encyclopedias during an era when the internet had not yet centralized comic book information.
