Lore

Why it matters

This rare promotional card is a centerpiece for dragon-themed decks, as its ability allows players to directly damage opponents whenever a dragon enters the battlefield. Its inclusion in this specific set marks it as a distinct collector's piece, bridging the gap between powerful utility and thematic dragon tribal identity.

Provenance

Where it came from

Dragon Tempest was released in 2015 as part of the Dragons of Tarkir set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. It was designed as an enchantment that rewards players for controlling dragons, fitting perfectly into the set's central theme of a timeline where dragons dominate the world of Tarkir. This specific version is a promotional variant, distributed through organized play events to encourage participation in the game's competitive circuit.

The card features artwork by Anna Steinbauer, who rendered the image with a focus on the dynamic, chaotic energy of a dragon's breath. Her illustration emphasizes the transformative power of the enchantment, capturing the destructive scale intended by the game's developers. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its synergy with tribal dragon decks, securing its place as a staple in the commander format.
