Provenance

Where it came from

The Dragon Turtle card was released in 2021 as part of the Adventures in the Forgotten Realms set, a landmark collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and the Dungeons & Dragons franchise. This set marked the first time the D&D universe was fully integrated into the Magic: The Gathering card game, designed to evoke the classic aesthetic of tabletop roleplaying modules and monster manuals.

The art for this specific promo card, illustrated by Titus Lunter, captures the creature's formidable presence as a massive, armored sea turtle native to the Dungeons & Dragons multiverse. Within the game, the design focused on a 'stunning' mechanic, reflecting the creature's ability to pull opponents into the deep, and it was received by players as a flavorful addition that bridges the gap between traditional card mechanics and iconic fantasy bestiary entries.
