Provenance

Where it came from

Dragonlord's Servant was originally released in the 2004 Saviors of Kamigawa set for the Magic: The Gathering card game. The card was designed to support dragon-themed decks by reducing the casting cost of high-mana dragon creatures, fitting into the Eastern-inspired lore of the Kamigawa plane where dragon spirits were central to the narrative.

The 2024 Year of the Dragon version, featuring the collector number 1, is a specialized promotional reprinting issued to celebrate the Lunar New Year. This version utilizes updated frame technology and art styles consistent with modern Magic: The Gathering aesthetics, serving as a commemorative release intended for collectors and players who appreciate the cultural crossover of the game's creature themes with the zodiac calendar.
