Dragonmaster Outcast

Dragonmaster Outcast was originally introduced in the Worldwake expansion of Magic: The Gathering in 2010. Designed by the Wizards of the Coast development team, the card was conceived to provide players with a high-impact, late-game threat that rewarded them for surviving long enough to amass a sufficient number of lands. Its inclusion in the Tarkir: Dragonstorm Commander deck signifies its enduring reputation as a classic staple in the Commander format, where its ability to generate 5/5 Dragon creature tokens consistently has made it a favored tool for aggressive red strategies.

The artwork for the card, famously illustrated by Chippy, captures the thematic intensity of a pyromancer commanding great winged beasts. The design sought to balance the card's low casting cost with a restrictive condition that keeps it from being too powerful in the early game. Upon its release, it was well-received for its clear win condition and evocative flavor, securing its place as a perennial reprint candidate in sets focused on dragon-themed mechanics and red-aligned combat.
