Where it came from
Dragonologist was released as part of the Tarkir: Dragonstorm promotional set, distributed during the 2014-2015 Khans of Tarkir block cycle for Magic: The Gathering. This specific card was designed to celebrate the return of dragons to the game's narrative, serving as a thematic bridge between the warlike clans of Tarkir and the draconic figures that came to dominate the plane's history during the Dragons of Tarkir expansion.
The card features artwork by artist Cynthia Sheppard, who utilized a lush, detailed style to emphasize the scholarly and reverent study of dragons within the lore. As a promotional release, it was primarily distributed through specialized events or card shops, and it was well-received by players for both its functional utility in dragon-themed decks and its evocative representation of the plane's unique dragon-worshiping culture.
