Where it came from
Dragon's Hoard was originally introduced in the Core Set 2019 expansion for Magic: The Gathering, designed as an artifact to support tribal dragon strategies by providing both mana ramp and card advantage. Its inclusion in Foundations Commander, a set curated to introduce foundational elements of the game to both new and veteran players, reinforces its status as a staple utility piece for deck archetypes centered around high-cost creatures.
The card features artwork by Wisnu Tan, who illustrated the piece to evoke the quintessential imagery of a dragon's wealth, utilizing rich, metallic tones and deep shadows to suggest immense value. Upon its release, the card was well received by the Commander community for its efficient integration of two distinct functions—mana acceleration and resource replenishment—within a single, colorless permanent that fits into any deck regardless of color identity.
