Elder Land Wurm

The Elder Land Wurm was released in 1994 as part of the Legends expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This set was notable for introducing multi-colored cards and the concept of legendary creatures, expanding the strategic complexity of the game significantly. It emerged during a formative period for the game, as Wizards of the Coast sought to deepen the lore and tactical options available to players beyond the initial base sets.

The card’s illustration was crafted by artist Rob Alexander, whose work during this era helped define the visual identity of the game’s landscapes and creatures. The design reflects the high-fantasy aesthetic prevalent in the early 1990s, focusing on an imposing, subterranean titan that emphasizes the card's theme of territorial control. Upon release, the set was met with strong interest from the player base, though the specific card became known more for its iconic place within the history of early green-aligned power creatures than for widespread competitive dominance.
