Elemental

The Elemental token, numbered 2 in the Lorwyn set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2007 as part of the Lorwyn expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Tokens were introduced as physical representations for creatures created by spell effects during gameplay, and this specific 1/1 red Elemental token was designed to accompany cards like Incandescent Soulstoke. The set drew heavily on Celtic mythology and folklore, shifting the game's aesthetic toward a vibrant, whimsical, and pastoral tone that departed from previous, darker-themed expansions.

The artwork for this token was commissioned from illustrator Greg Staples, a long-time contributor to the game known for his expressive and atmospheric style. Staples designed the Elemental as a swirling, ethereal entity composed of fire and embers, perfectly embodying the volatile nature of the set's elemental creatures. Upon its release, the token was well-received by players for its cohesive integration into the Lorwyn plane's visual identity, serving as a functional yet visually striking component of the deck-building experience.
