Elvish Fury

Elvish Fury was released in 1997 as part of the Tempest set, a pivotal expansion for the Magic: The Gathering card game. The set is widely remembered for introducing the buyback mechanic, which allowed players to return a card to their hand after resolution by paying an additional cost. This mechanic was designed to provide long-term value and tactical recursion, reflecting the set's overarching theme of high-stakes, aggressive gameplay set on the plane of Rath.

The card features an illustration by Jeff Miracola, an artist who contributed significantly to the aesthetic of 1990s-era Magic. Miracola’s work on this piece captures the fierce, energetic nature of elven combat, utilizing a gritty, dark fantasy style that defined the visual language of the Tempest block. Upon its release, the card became a staple for casual decks centered on green mana, valued primarily for its ability to repeatedly boost creature power during critical combat phases.
